Milk: grams, ml and cups
1 cup of milk is 236.6 ml by volume, and King Arthur Baking's chart weighs it at 227 grams; 100 g of milk is 0.44 cups.
Milk is mostly water with some fat, protein and sugar, which makes it slightly denser than water. A cup weighed on your own scale can come out a little above 227 g, and some charts list 240 g or more. For cooking and nearly all baking, that gap doesn't matter.

Weights from the King Arthur Baking ingredient weight chart, checked October 7, 2026. King Arthur Baking lists “Milk (fresh)” at 1 cup = 227 g. King Arthur Baking lists “Cream (heavy cream, light cream, or half & half)” at 1 cup = 227 g. Grams per cup is worked out from their figure; ounces are converted from grams.
Most metric recipes use ml for milk
European and British recipes almost always give milk in milliliters, not grams. To get cups, divide by 236.6: 250 ml is 1 cup + 1 tbsp. If a recipe does give milk in grams, treating 1 g as 1 ml is close enough. More in ml to cups.
Cream and half-and-half
King Arthur lists heavy cream, light cream and half-and-half at the same 227 g per cup as milk. Weighed precisely, cream comes out a little lighter than milk because of its fat, but not by enough to matter in a recipe.
When to weigh milk
In bread dough and some cakes, bakers weigh every liquid along with the flour so the hydration is exact. In a sauce, a soup or pancakes, a measuring jug is fine.
ReelMeal's Metric setting shows the cups of milk in an imported recipe as milliliters, which is how most of the world measures it, and Imperial shows them as cups and fluid ounces.
